As for goals and objectives on the spiritual path ... watch this 82 min. videotape of Eckhart contemporary John Sherman. Interesting angle.

Thanks, Dave. The cult of the Mac is really just the old skool geek ethic. Put your manna out on the water and it comes back many fold. I actually looked at the Rough Guide at Borders today, but I didn't buy it because I was afraid to spend any more on my setup. My wife is already casting serious askances at me. Shiver.

I have always enjoyed reading "Cognitive Edge" especially now that I have two very practical projects going trying to encourage "naturalistic" communities of practice, one for students and one for faculty. I am reading Manns and Rising's Fearless Change to great purpose right now. I will keep folks posted on progress/regress on both fronts.

Thanks again, Dave.

I made the switch just over a year ago and never looked back. I have been kicking myself that I didn't do it earlier.

One really useful book is "The rough guide to Macs & OS X" by Buckley & Clark. Its got all the little stuff (like putting a $ before the password on a wireless network) that is not in any of the material you get when you get started. It also tells you the best conversion programmes etc.

I would also invest in Pages and Keynote while you are at it - they are much much better than their Office equivalents and convert files with ease if you need to communicate to others.

Other than that the Apple slogan "it just works" applies. I reackon 10-20% productivity inprovement over Windows with ease.

On think to check though - the nice silver cases are not as good at conducting wirless signals as the white ones ....

It will take around 25 hours of hands-on practice before you reach the level of "good enough."

I wonder, though, how long a class-based podcast will run. I usually keep my podcast episodes to under 7 minutes. If it's longer than that, I shift to written notes.

Those who ignore our shifting semiosis are condemned to irrelevance. If the educational institutions don't move forward into/ onto the web, they will have lost their purpose.

Hi, Terry,

I'm working with a teacher who has incorporated blogging into her class. I'm researching the class. The blogging has been very messy lately and not always in productive ways. It's easy for teachers to be sidetracked by the messiness and miss the good stuff happening.

Thank you for the wonderful idea about creating one bloglines account. The students (freshmen)need a bloglines, but I think it would be a lot easier to have one account for everyone.

Okay, I got here, but I had to go around Robin Hood's barn to do it. I entered through ConnecText & the link there. Anyway, I like the looks of your page, though obviously I haven't read it all yet.
