Assignment, November 12, 2007
Here is the assignment in lieu of class today. Consider this an in-class writing since you are in the blog “classroom”.
1. Using a separate page (if you have forgotten how, go ahead and do a regular post and we will move it on Wednesday) address this question: How are you progressing on your I-Search? You should address the following issues as well as any others you consider important:
a. Are you telling it as a story? If so, tell me how and give examples.
b. Are you reflecting on it as you gather information? In other words do you assess the quality of the info, how you felt getting it, what you might do better next time, as well as how you used the information? Would you gather the information the same way again knowing what you know now?
c. Are you using a variety of different sources? Look at the rubric I provided to you and walk through the various reference materials you might use? Online? Library? Journals? Video? Audio? Interviews (both face-to-face and online)? Statistics? Surveys? Stories? Novels? Non-fiction books?
d. How are you organizing the material? In other words, are you using the I-Search template or some other format? Write about how they are helping or hindering. Make sure you explain why they might be doing one or the other or both.
e. What are you working on next and how are you going to accomplish that?
What I mean is simple: what steps are you taking in order to get the draft done on either 11/19 or 11/26?
f. If you were having a conference, what problems would you like the most help with?
